27/01/13. My 14th homebrew and the second of a double brew AIPA weekend. AL-E √2 as it is a copy of my first homebrew AL-E but with half the malt

Mash tun filled with water ex wort cooler. Heater on to raise temperature from 26°C to 70°C

Mash 1hr 30min starting at 65°C and falling to 63°C after 45 minutes and then heated to 67°C for the final 45 minutes

2.5kg Pale Malt

200g Crystal Malt

Run off through bottom tap in mash tun into fermentation bin (14l) and then sparged with 5l of hot water (19l) then the grains bag squeezed and the mash tun completely emptied (22l)

Boil 1hr total

60g Amarillo (10.5%) at the start

55g Amarillo 30 minutes in

45g Amarillo and half a Whirlfloc tablet added with 10 minutes to go

Filtered to fermentation bin and 5l of boiled water added to bring volume back to 5 gallons (22.7l)

Wort cooler utilised to crash temperature from 68°C to 25°C in 20 minutes
