The Castle is an old thick stone-walled pub in Cockermouth (read "no phone signal") with large tellies for sports.   3 real ales on the bar from local breweries - one is always Loweswater Gold - & a few decent bottled beers like Krusovice Czech lager.   Often a beer will be from the fantastic Hawkshead brewery, such as Five Hop or NZPA.

The food is really quite good with pub classics to slightly more extravagant meals.   If you don't like the bar area, then it has a restaurant upstairs.   The bar area goes on & on forever round corners seemingly in L-space.   There is a terraced beer garden that also twists upwards many levels.

Very popular on big match nights & at the weekend.
