We have recently returned from spending a month in the land down under. On my last visit some 4 years ago I lamented the lack of real beer that was available. I recall a slightly disappointing visit to the Lord Nelson in Sydney and trying all 3 of their micro-brewery offerings and commenting they tasted pretty much the same.
The situation now seems a lot better. Most of the off licences offer a good range on locally produced ales. While they are generally of the Pale Ale or Amber style the variety of tastes was much greater than previously and it was fun to explore the offerings. While Australia still doesn't have the range I'll be enjoying at my local beer festival later this week it was heartening to see progress being made and (I assume) the market for drinks other than fizzy larger growing.
The following photos show a few of the beers I sampled over the last month.
